Karasuma Street (South Area)
I walked along Karasuma Street, the main street stretching north from Kyoto Station.
Here is the Higashi Honganji Temple, also
known as Ohigashi-san, officially known as the Shinshu Honbyo.
This is the closest and largest temple on
foot from Kyoto Station. It is the mother temple of the Shinshū Ōtani-ha
branch of Jōdo Shinshū (Shin Buddhism), whose founder is Shinran (1173-1262). The building area of the Goeido (i.e. the Founder’s Hall) is one
of the largest wooden buildings in Japan.

Note: A 10-minute walk to the west will take you to the very similar Nishi Honganji Temple. This is the head temple of the Honganji sect of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, and its Goeido and Amida halls, built in the Azuchi-Momoyama period, are national treasures. Higashi Honganji was rebuilt after a fire and was built in the Meiji era.
More details in another article...
As this area is near the mother temple of a religious sect, there are many small inns that accommodate monks and believers who gather from all over the country for big Buddhist memorial services, as well as stores selling Buddhist altars and prayer beads.
This is a furoshiki shop

It looked like a flower shop, but actually was
an inn called "Hanabo" (meaning "flower inn").
This is also a small inn. The bonsai trees
in the eaves are wonderful.
Oh, a bronze statue of a monk.
This was also a Buddhist altar and prayer
beads store.
Karasuma Dori extends further north,
becoming the center of Kyoto's business district.
