Enjoying autumn flowers at Kyoto Botanical Garden

 


When I visited the Kyoto Botanical Garden in late October, the autumn flowers were in full bloom.

First, I was greeted by the lovely cosmos.












The rose garden is in full bloom with autumn roses.












Chrysanthemums are also in bloom. The large chrysanthemums  with a diameter of 20cm that the horticulturists have painstakingly cultivated are magnificent.

Katsura Rikyu with green maple leaves

  The gardens of Katsura Imperial Villa (i.e. Katsura Rikyu) are said to be the most beautiful in Japan. I visited Katsura Rikyu, which reopened to the public in June after the declaration of a state of emergency due to the corona disaster, in the season of swaying green maples.   Katsura Rikyu started accepting applications on the day of the tour this month. Get off at "Katsura Rikyu-mae" (city bus No. 33) from Kyoto Station, turn around a little and walk north along the Katsura River, and soon you will see a sign on your left that says "Same-day registration.   Guided 1-our tours are available every hour at Katsura Rikyu, but the number of people per tour is limited to 20 due to the Corona disaster. This time, I lined up before the 8:40 a.m. registration started, so I joined the 9:00 a.m. tour. There were four participants. Monet's Waterlilies with Lotus Flowers: Asahi Beer Oyamazaki Villa Museum of Art

The Asahi Beer Oyamazaki Villa Museum of Art is located in Oyamazaki-cho, Otokuni-gun, southwest of Kyoto City. It was built between the Taisho and Showa periods as a mountain villa for a businessman in the Kansai region. After the death of him, Asahi Breweries, a close friend of him, bought the land and buildings and opened it to the public as an art museum in 1996. The museum's main building and five other structures are registered tangible cultural properties as valuable modern architectures.   This year marks the 25th anniversary of the museum, and the special collection "Reflecting Dreams: The Museum's Collection of Pictures" is on display.   From JR Kyoto Station, get off at Yamazaki Station, the fifth station in the direction of Osaka. Climbing Yagi Castle Ruins

 The ruins of Yagi Castle, located northwest of Kyoto City, seems to be a hot spot right now. Licensed by OpenStreetMap   Yagi Castle is a mountain castle built on Mt.Shiroyama, 330 meters above sea level. According to the map, it takes about 40 minutes to go up and 30 minutes to go down.   The scale of the remains that can be confirmed today (about 700 meters from east to west and 900 meters from north to south) is one of the largest in the country of Tamba the area spans from present-day Kyoto Prefecture to Hyogo Prefecture, during the Warring States Period. It was said to be one of the three largest mountain castles in Tamba, along with Kuroi Castle in Hikami and Yagami Castle in Taki.
